Adversity cause some (wo)men to break and others to break records.
Watching the 2012 Olympics, I am transported to 1984.
My sister and I lived in the Blanche Nixon library, spending hours reading over book titles, devouring Judy Blume. It was the summer of Mary Lou Retton in gymnastics and I wanted to be a gymnast.
Now I watch the games with my son and wax poetic about him being a participant in Atlanta 2020. He has the time to train and the will to make it. I think he could go the distance.
