For years I labored under the false misconception that the Bible treated women and children as lesser creatures. My ideas were based on the false teachings of school yard friends, bad preachers, and a sick fascination with the plural marriage in some Mormon cultures. My lack of true knowledge was the foundation of my relationship to God.
As much as I dismissed others for being a la carte with their faith, I too picked and choose what parts of the Bible to follow:
Smoking: God planted tobacco
Overeating: God made the food taste good.
Type A personality: God wants me to have spunk
Making a habit of reading the Bible daily is chipping away at my lack of belief. I never thought I’d see the day when I woke up looking forward to reading about a world that marganilzed me. I remember getting married and the long pause at the archaic phrrAse
Once again the Israelites are being whiny and disobedient. God has delivered them time after time yet they still cling to the seen and the known. They are once again oppressed by the people around them and feel a need to follow the crowd rather than be patient and follow the promises and blessings of God.
