Summer Vacation is here and the dreaded words have been uttered:
I think The Boy waits for the most inopportune moments (me preparing for a fundraiser, The Mister meeting a client, The Teen headed to flag practice, breakfast) to decide the pile of books, the video games, trips to the zoo, his crew of friends or our nature walks are not enough to keep him entertained.
Luckily, the Philly Social Media Moms and my sister’s eagle eyes found an activity to help stave this tiring summer refrain.
Today’s post is about Robotics Camp as told by the Boy.
“When I got there, they hadn’t started yet because they were waiting for everyone to come. I got a name tag, then Mrs H told us about different robotics. One of the things we talked about was the robots that are used on Mars to explore the planet. These run on solar energy.
“There were other types of robots we talked about: medical robots (these help people who have lost limbs), service robots (they deliver mail in offices), and the robots who assist construction workers as they build properties.
“When it was our turn to build robots, we used computers to program the robots through a USB cord. The objective was to make a fan using Legos, which we called the ultra fan.
“I really enjoyed this class. I was able to learn somethings about constructing a robot and have a new way to play with the Legos that I have in my room. Since you already signed me up for Vacation Bible School, I won’t be able to go the rest of the week, but I’m excited to go to the Lansdowne Library and show my friends some of the things I learned.”
I liked the camp for a number of reasons. I have an activity I can introduce to my cubs that will help them earn a badge, my son is not in a Nintendo Wii coma, but actually using miscellaneous items in the house to make “creations.” I love edutainment!

The Boy was able to attend today’s session for the purpose of reviewing the camp.
