Twisted Tuesday
Last night marked the one year anniversary of the charter of my Toastmasters Club, Main Line Speaks, 2813954. In the past year, I’ve grown from a timid speaker who spoke too soft and too fast to a speaker who is confident giving an impromptu talk or a planned presentation.
To celebrate our one year since chartering, the club had a theme of New Beginnings. I sweated my speech. I didn’t feel it was as dynamic as the last speech I gave, a speech based on a blog post about The PreTeen, . Last night’s speech was very personal and a link to the speech will be provided later. The gist of the speech was how The Teen going away to university made me realize that I had been drifting through life rather than living.
Club President Carrie R gave an informative speech about the Affordable Care Act and the steps people need to take to ensure they are covered.
The last speech was from Sherilynn K who gave me a new quote to keep in mind:
I aspire to inspire before I expire
WORD
I played double duty and was the Table Topics Master. I like Table Topics. Anyone can participate, including guests, and it helps with thinking fast on your feet.
Since our topic was new beginnings, I found quotes that were the epitome of new beginnings:
Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just the first step. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr
We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves, otherwise we harden. ~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. ~ Maria Robinson
Our Word Master was Pamela N who gave us the word Renaissance. Renaissance is the perfect word to sum our club. As I get to know the ladies, I have seen a rebirth and revival not just in me but in the members as we work toward our individual goals.
Keep the conversation going. Comments welcomed!
