The Mister and I do not hesitate when it comes to traveling for food. He has made three trips to New York to visit Los Tacos No. 1 and I dragged him to Majors for a hoagie. After catching the end of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives on Food Network he determined that our next jaunt would be to visit Kelsey’s.
Kelsey’s is a restaurant a few blocks from the Atlantic City Boardwalk with a menu featuring soul food. The restaurant offers a brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 3 with the last seating at 2 PM. This was a bit of a disappointment for The Mister as he was was ready to get his all you can eat grub on, but I convinced him to walk the boardwalk while we waited for the restaurant to open for dinner.
We were not disappointed. The menu is different from the show on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives.
The meal started with cornbread and Mango Long Island Iced Teas. These were STRONG drinks!
I really wanted Shrimp and Grits since I have been craving grits for a while, but opted for Smothered Turkey.
The portions are HUGE! I ate half my food and brought the rest home. The Mister attacked his order of smothered porkchops with gusto, lamenting that he has not had this in a long time.
On the television show, one of the dishes was “trotters”. My love of swine strips aside, I did NOT want to eat pig’s feet. When I questioned our waitress Lala, she told me that the cafe styled restaurant Kelsey and Kim’s offered more pork items on the menu. I will let The Mister visit that one solo.
If you go to Kelsey’s there is street parking near the restaurant. After eating, stroll the boardwalk to work off the meal. It was worth a day trip to Atlantic City.
