Can the President Be Sexy?
This is the question posed on quite a few blogs I frequent and my email group.
My answer is a sure yes, quick no and long BUT.
The power of being The President of the United States is intoxicating enough. A brother in the White House: be still my heart! How he won this job, the way he speaks, how he looks in a suit…so yes, the President Can Be Sexy.
The Long But:
Had The Washingtonian not edited the original picture of President Obama from black trunks to a blazing red or deleted the background adding a claim that he was ‘smoking hot’ I would be okay. As it stands, they did. And now we continue with the day and age where nothing is sacred, not even the POTUS.
I watched Grey Gardens on HBO and moved by the story, I did some searching to see what more I could find on these two reclusive women. One tidbit I found was that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis filed a lawsuit against the place where ‘Little’ Edie Beale did her cabaret show because of the embarrassment it caused her family.
Imagine the lawsuits Jackie O would file today with our ‘gotcha’ journalism and total disregard for the privacy of public figures.
As if no privacy was bad enough there is the Hidden Hate. By editing the picture, did the Washingtonian feed into the idea that a man of color must be equated with a sexualized notion? Or have we really come so far where we can admire a man who is fit and trim who happens to be Black?
I opt for the later because I’m thinking of our last two POTUS. Would we REALLY want to see them in their trunks?
