To me, the Philly Pops was always my grandmother’s thing. Whenever a commercial would come on she would make us all hush so she could sway to the snippets of song. It wasn’t until the Twitter handle @TheArtsinPhilly started tweeting out contest that featured the Philly Pops did I start to notice them.
For your chance to hear Williams' masterworks as played by @ThePhillyPops tweet: "You're gonna love @TheArtsInPhilly!" by noon tomorrow.

The performance I saw with The PreTeen had music from movies we were both familiar with. The show started with a medley of music from Harry Potter much to the delight of my son. With each song that played, his face lit up and he continued to hug my arm telling me how awesome the music was and that he was glad he came (like he had a choice). To the delight of the audience, during the Star Wars Medley, conductor Michael Krajewski used a light saber to lead the orchestra only to have Darth Vader come out and replace him to finish the song.
The highlight for me was a surprise presentation of Raider’s March from Indiana Jones. It wasn’t listed on the program but the orchestra played with gusto and I shouted myself hoarse to show my approval and delight.
The 2013-2014 season is over but the line up for 2014-2015 looks like a winner.
Fun Fact: The Principal Trumpet Player, Matthew Gallagher, is an Upper Darby alum and recent inductee to the Wall of Fame.
