It has been some time since I updated this feature. Part of it was how many ways could I kvetch about cookies and partly just out and out lack of inertia.
Energized by a somewhat decent sleep, a daily workout regime, and the pestering of Sleeping Beauty, I give you my Six for Sunday:
*1). Upper Darby was on a roll this week. First, there’s the guy who beat up another guy over a parking space. Are you kidding me? I know about lawn chairs during. snowstorms and the jackass who places chairs out every Sunday before church, but to resort to fisticuffs over a parking spot…just wrong. Then there was a kid who may or may not have been planning a take over of his school. A kid has to be pretty damn fed up to want to plan a violent takeover of a school. As heinous as this is, my question is what are we doing to prevent this? The world has many ways to. punish but what about creating programs to foster understanding, support and safe environments for these troubled kids who then become troubled adults?
*2) Facebook can cost you your job.
The Mister and I had a (verbal) knock down drag out over this: a man who worked for the Iggles posted that the team management (the same ones who sign his paycheck, mind you) was RETARDED for trading a player. After he hit send, he had an uh oh moment when he realized that some of the RETARDED managers were his friends. He was let go and the Iggles have released no further statements. Message boards were blowing up! He should have a right to express his opinion (The Mister agrees with this). He basically bit the hand that fed him and has to live with the consequence (my stand). Dude was wrong. Period. Yes you have the right to express your opinion, but not using derogatory words or directly affecting the ones who pay you.
*3) Losing weight is not a quick process. Originally I began a new workout regiment because I wanted to lose weight. Having your pants split on you is enough to make you want to break your jaw to quit eating. Dramatics aside, I have learned is that I need to adopt a healthier attitude and habits. Slow and steady have won the race since the beginning of time. Why should I try to change the wheel? I do a mile of walking and practice yoga daily. With the exception of a lemon wedge in my water, no fads or lose it quick gimmicks for me.
*4) There continues to be a war between the brothers and the others, and I met a few first lieutenants during various forays into the hood. My people, I implore you: pick up a damn book every now and then. Have your children do the same. It appalls me how people continue to spew hate and discord but do nothing to rectify the world. Everyone doesn’t have to create solutions to the world’s woes, but everyone doesn’t need to contribute to the woes, either. I weep at some of our future.
*5) Alice Smith warbles this ditty:
Bona fide is a whole deal
Fake is the new real
Being more hands on with both kids, I have found that people are a Tra-rip without the luggage. I see it at the grocery store, the library, CHURCH, everywhere! I can feed into it, or consider Jesus. It is difficult, turning the other cheek, but oh so satisfying when you see that indeed, you are the bigger person.
*6) Wearing a coat in the winter is not optional. Unfortunately, I haven’t got that virus that causes you to stop eating, but I have the sniffles, a hacking cough, and an inability to stay warm. The idea that I was going from my car to my destination is no excuse to jeopardize my health.
