Today’s Writing Prompt: How does winter make you feel and what do you do with those feelings?
I know winter crushes me. That it gets early so dark makes me want to hunker down in my bed or on my couch and stare at the TV. IT’s difficult to accomplish more than anythiong but eating and wrapping my hands around a cup of tea.
Thankfully, I have The Mister prodding me to just get out for a little, and a sister who finds the oddest and most random events to attend.
SAD is real for me. We once had a summer of rain, making it like that Ray Bradbury story, All Summer in a Day, and I felt like Margot.: miserable, alone, just wanting to go back to the way things were. IF I didnb’t know any better, you’d have thought we were expecting I was so hormonal. IT was the lack of sun to my body that triggered the blues.
What do I do with those feelings? I try not to eat them away. I’ve been practicing Mindfulness, and this helps to train me to make myself more aware of my feelings, those around me, and what I’m doing. This helps a bit. I also make it my business to leave the house at least once a day so I can feel both the bitter cold and a taste of the sun on my skin.
Inside, I take advantage of my hermit feelings by experimenting in the kitchen, trying to finish WIP (work in progrss for the non crafters), and diving into a good book.
This is truly a discipline as all I want to do is answer the howling wind by turning up the TV and burrowing in the covers.
