The gif at the bottom of the link is the best reaction to this short film that I’ve seen. The comments on various sites range from the film being beautifully produced to the movie is plain disturbing.
Disturbing it is. As civil suits began to pour in against Jerry Sandusky for his molestation of young boys, Syracuse Coach Bernie Fine AND wife are exposed for their inappropriate relationship with a young man, and 9/9/9 inventor Herman Cain has women tripping over themselves to expose his lewdness, to watch a film about a boy molesting his father is just sick. Then to find out the film is supposed to be satire and comedic, makes me reinforce the notion that someone needs to step up and demand that we do better.
The director explained that he took the most heinous thing he could imagine then twisted it into a ridiculous scenario. Then he filmed the movie.
The movie DOES focus on an African American family, but their race isn’t ever made the issue. What is supposed to be an issue is that even in a family where everything seems perfect, there’s always something going on behind closed doors.
Perhaps I’m overly sensitive. In the past year I’ve had to talk to The Boy about possible molestation from the father of his last school, talk to The Tern about self esteem and her body being her body, and even some incidents where I had to fight for equality as a peer and not just a pretty face.
